Named in the favor of Sangamon River, the Sangamon County was created in the year 1821 with an area of 877.02 sq mi. A population of about 0.19 million with a rich mix of White, Native American, black or African American, Asian, Hispanic or Latino, Pacific Islander, and others with more than 78.7K housing units and 49.9K families are found here. Springfield forms the county seat of the county.
